Welcome to the Snow Page!

It started snowing here on Wednesday, January 26th, 2000. By Thursday morning, not only did we have 6 inches of snow on the ground, but we had no electricity as well. Our electricity was restored on Friday the 28th some time around 5:00am. The snow has not begun to melt and it is supposed to stay near freezing tomorrow, Saturday the 29th. Between the snow covered ground and the ice encapsulated trees, it is truly a winter wonderland. But don't take my word for it, see for yourself. We've been plenty active over the last two days. To stay warm, we've cut and gathered firewood for heating the cabin with the woodstove. Don built a sled and we hiked back on our property boundary where a very decent hill provided hours of fun. And I couldn't pass up this opportunity to make a snowman. We plan to sled tomorrow and this time we'll take some pictures.

We were a little chilly on Thursday night with no electric heaters and only the small woodstove to keep us warm. But we read by candlelight and huddled next to the stove until late at night. Then we got under our down comfortor and another comfortor and stayed pretty warm. Tonight we should be plenty warm now that the electricity is back on.

This weather had made us reconsider our priorities with the cabin, though. We are going to postpone the additions and get on with buttoning up the cabin as is. Finish insulating all walls and all the little pockets where cold air can get in and heat can escape. If you look closely in the pictures, you will see where we have started insulating the crawl space.
