Camping
Between October 2 through January 2, camping is confined to the designated campground areas. Throughout the rest of the year, primitive camping is allowed anywhere on the public lands within the grassland boundaries. Both Lake Davy Crockett and Coffee Mill Lake offer camping facilities and recreation activities. Coffee Mill Lake Campground is the largest of the three designated camping areas which offer full camping facilities. Coffee Mill facilities include drinking water, picnic tables, bar-b-q rings, posts with a hook, his and her outhouse facilities, a boat launch, and a fishing pier with a ladder. There is no fee required at the Coffee Mill Lake Campground. Occupancy of campsites is on a first come, first "get" basis. This campground is a popular site during the Summer months. The Fourth of July is one of its busiest days. Popular activities at this campground include swimming, fishing, boating, water skiing, and jet skiing. Other busy times of the year include opening day of the general hunting season, as well as weekends and holidays during the general hunting season. These photographs of the Coffee Mill Lake Campground were take on Thursday, January 20, 2000, by Laura. It is obvious by these photographs that weekdays in winter following the general hunting season, is not a peak time of the season for campers.
